Terms of Service
These Terms of Service govern access to commentary.dev and related review, documentation, API, and support surfaces offered by Commentary.
By accessing or using Commentary, you agree to these Terms and to the Privacy Policy. If you use Commentary on behalf of an organization, you represent that you can bind that organization to these Terms.
Use of the service
Commentary provides a rendered-document review surface for Markdown stored in Git repositories. Public pull requests may be available without login for read-only use. Commenting, replies, private repository access, and certain review actions require authenticated access.
You may use Commentary only in compliance with applicable law, these Terms, and the terms that govern the third-party services and repositories you connect to Commentary.
Acceptable use and user responsibilities
You agree not to:
- use Commentary to violate law, infringe rights, or interfere with the service or other users;
- attempt to bypass repository permissions, rate limits, or security controls;
- upload malicious content, exploit the service, scrape the service in abusive ways, or disrupt availability;
- misrepresent your identity, organization, repository access, or authority to review or comment; or
- use Commentary in a way that violates GitHub’s terms or the rights of repository owners and contributors.
Accounts and access
You are responsible for the actions taken through your account, GitHub connection, or personal access token. Keep your credentials and device access secure.
Commentary may limit, suspend, or revoke access if authentication becomes invalid, repository access is withdrawn, abuse is detected, or the service cannot be operated safely.
Repository content and ownership
Commentary may render repository, pull request, branch, and review content that originates from GitHub or other third parties. That content remains owned by the repository owner and applicable contributors or rights holders.
Commentary does not claim ownership of third-party repository content merely by displaying, caching, or synchronizing it for review workflows.
Billing and subscriptions
Paid plans, billing cadence, refunds, and tax handling are not finalized yet. Commentary will update these terms or publish separate commercial terms before charging for access.
Until paid plans are finalized, any billing references in the product, documentation, or roadmap should be treated as informational rather than as a binding promise of pricing or refund rights.
Availability, warranties, and liability limits
Commentary is provided on an “as is” and “as available” basis. Commentary does not guarantee uninterrupted availability, complete accuracy, perfect GitHub synchronization, or compatibility with every repository workflow or browser environment.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Commentary disclaims implied warranties and limits liability for indirect, incidental, consequential, special, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for lost profits, revenue, data, goodwill, or business interruption arising from use of the service.
Termination and suspension
Commentary may suspend or terminate access immediately if needed to protect the service, comply with law, investigate abuse, or respond to repository or provider restrictions.
You may stop using Commentary at any time. Some provisions of these Terms, including ownership, warranty, liability, dispute, and compliance provisions, survive termination.
Governing law and disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of [Governing law placeholder], without regard to conflict of law principles.
Courts located in [Jurisdiction placeholder] will have jurisdiction over disputes unless applicable law requires a different forum or consumer protection rule.
