• commentary_session: Keeps the browser-wide Commentary viewer session and active GitHub account available for authenticated review actions. Retention: Up to 30 days.
• commentary_oauth_state: Protects the GitHub App sign-in flow against request forgery during authentication. Retention: Up to 10 minutes.
• commentary_oauth_redirect: Returns the user to the Commentary route they were on after GitHub authentication completes. Retention: Up to 10 minutes.
• commentary_cookie_preferences: Stores the user’s cookie-consent choice so the consent banner respects that decision. Retention: 180 days.

Commentary uses optional tracking cookies only after you accept them. These cookies help Commentary understand usage patterns, signed-out traffic, and product reliability without relying on raw GitHub identifiers.

• commentary_anonymous_id: Supports privacy-safe usage tracking for signed-out and read-only traffic. Retention: 365 days.

When optional cookies are active, Commentary shows a consent banner that lets you accept or reject them. Commentary stores that choice in a necessary preference cookie so the banner respects your decision.
